TV Junkie: The Battle For Sunday Night Begins in Earnest - Showtime Takes It (for now)

Weekend Edition Why are we saying that Showtime takes Sunday night? Look at the scheduling. "Mad Men", while a darling of the critics (oursElvis included), has been even more slow-paced than usual this season and will be winding up soon. HBO has "Curb Your Enthusiasm" and the admirable "Bored To Death", but they are personality-driven comedies that almost require you to be a fan of Larry David and Jason Schwartzman, and while we are fans of theirs a comedy can't hold a stick to the visceral and compelling (and humorous in its own right) "Dexter" in the same time slot. Thank goodness for HBO OnDemand so that I can watch "Curb" and "Bored" later.

TV Junkie: Bad HBO, No Donut; The Streamys on Sat.; Gaffigan on Sun.

The Internet is abuzz today with promotion of HBO's "The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency" to air this Sunday. Some writer's are pointing out that the show doesn't address any of the problems going on in Africa these days (AIDS, war, famine, rape, pillaging of natural resource) - instead it depicts a laid-back and idyllic place with only quaint soap opera-esque concerns.

Saturday night's huge LACMA Halloween party sold out so quickly I had to buy my tickets on Ebay. Even then, 40 bucks a ticket for an entire night of drinking, hors d' ouvres, DJs, and entry into the Dali exhibition sounded too good to be true. It was definitely clear where corners were cut to make the event affordable. But I don't know anywhere you will find more creative costumes. Even WeHo has some...

The nicer the weather gets, the busier we get across the Ist-A-Verse. But we like being busy. Here's a peek at what we've been up to since last week!

There's a growing trend of male celebs either getting outed or outing themselves. And they're getting 'lanced,' says Reichen Lehmkuhl, Lance Bass' boyfriend, and former reality TV stud (from "The Amazing Race 4").

The DGA announced its best directing in feature film award nominees yesterday:

We're not quite sure what The Amazing Race has to do with it but the Sac Bee (login required) decided to figure out how long it takes to get from Sacramento to LA without the use of a car. Amtrak will take you about eight hours assuming you go the Bakersfield route. Going along the coast is likely to take you much longer and you can expect delays (if you're taking the train, though, you're probably not in a rush right? We'd take this roundabout way just for the scenery). Greyhound, on the other hand, can take you anywhere from seven to ten and a half hours as they have to deal with traffic.
