Tinseltown, Southland, The Entertainment Capital of the World, El Lay, The City of Angels, Hell-A, La La Land —LA has its share of nicknames, but none seem to give our city due credit for the wealth of literature housed among these trafficked streets. Thanks to an unfortunate reputation as a not-so-literary city, LA local bookshops are often and unduly overlooked. But, forget what you might have heard (or haven’t heard, for that matter). Brittany Murphy Used Alias to Get Hundreds of Pills a Month
Actress Brittany Murphy was taking hundreds of prescription pills a month prior to her death, and was even using an alias to obtain additional and often duplicate scrips, according to TMZ. The gossip site notes: "Pharmacy records show Murphy was getting regular scrips for hydrocodone (Vicodin), clonazepam and Klonopin (anti-anxiety), and Vicoprofen (a Vicodin/ibuprofen combo) -- doubling up on some prescriptions on certain months," in quantities sometimes as much as 100-300 of each drug. Murphy used the name "Lola Manilow Murphy -- at Eddie's Pharmacy in Los Angeles for nearly two years ... before the pharmacy finally cut her off 4 months before her death." The 32-year-old actress died on December 20th.
