Saturday night, La Luz De Jesus Gallery is hosting a CD release party & signing for the new Aimee Mann record @#%&! Smilers, featuring the work of critically hailed artist Gary Taxali. Mann, who is no stranger to teaming with artists for cover artwork, won a Grammy in 2006 for her collaboration with painter Owen Smith. This one night event will feature 17 original Taxali illustrations done for the album. Extremely limited silkscreen prints will......

On June 3, Aimee Mann’s new album, @#%&*! Smilers, will be released on her SuperEgo Records label. Throughout the 13 tracks, Mann delivers a musical experience that packs an emotional punch. The songs hint at her playful side and deliver melodies you’ll want to hum for the rest of the day. LAist caught up with Mann to get the scoop on her new record....

Last August, Aimee Mann, Joan Osborne, Rob Laufer, Ian Ball from Gomez, and Al Jorgensen joined Cheap Trick and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra to recreate Sgt. Peppers on it's 40th Anniversary. They'll do it again June 28th. We're four months out from the official start of the 2008 Hollywood Bowl Season and the schedule is nearly complete. Single tickets won't go on sale for a couple months but the Bowl is offering 16 different......

For those who joined us last night (thank you for coming!), we witnessed many hot and bothered moments with an excellent band we've never hard before -- The Makers (we can't find their website, help). They are in residency at Seven Grand every Tuesday and we highly recommend checking them out. For tonight, first night residencies for this month happen at the Viper Room, Hotel Cafe and the Silverlake Lounge (see our Guide to February......

Aimee Mann will play tonight and tomorrow night at Largo. Dinner is booked, but they say come down early for drinks | Photo via MySpace Usually Tuesday nights are slow for music in this town. Not tonight -- the spirit of Super Tuesday and democracy must have rung clear to bookers. Of course, LAist is having a party too, starting at 7:00 p.m. at Seven Grand. Choices, choices. If there's a show you do......

Daniel Johnston at SXSW, 3/07 He's probably best known for his "Hi How Are You" tshirt that Kurt Cobain often wore, but if you don't know Daniel Johnston's music you're really missing out and you should definitely pick up the award-winning DVD, "The Devil and Daniel Johnston". Equally amateurish and darkly genius, Johnston's tunes lie somewhere between Brian Wilson and Wesley Willis while being heavily influenced by the Beatles: Daniel Johnston @ Henry Fonda......

They're sure to fill up soon, but as of 9 a.m. this morning, you can still make reservations to see Aimee Mann at Largo on August 22, 23 or 24. Seeing her in such a small venue is a rare treat, and the cover charge will probably be only $20 (plus a $15 per person food minimum for dinner reservations). As soon as the mug graphic appears next to the dates in the Schedule......

For us there is no better LA street fair than the Sunset Junction annual event in the Silver Lake stretch of Sunset Blvd. One can enjoy eating chicken on a stick and drinking a beer while peoplewatching the hipsters, the kids, those of alternative lifestyles, and the random tourists who don't really know what they've stumbled into. The volunteer "donation" is now a hard $15 admission, but for all the good music, good food,......

The US Supreme Court today issued its much-awaited ruling on the file-sharing software case known as Metro-Goldwyn-Meyer Studios Inc. V. Grokster, Ltd.. Basically, the court ruled that producing technology that could, among many possible uses, allow the sharing of copyrighted works, is not illegal, but that that doesn't mean that companies can be hinting or promoting to the public that they can use these services to download free copies of songs by Christina Aguilera......
