AFI Fest 2011 kicks off today celebrating 25 years as the longest running international film festival in Los Angeles. Clear your calendar for the next week because tickets for screenings at this year’s festival, Presented by Audi, are free. Highlights include Leonardo DiCaprio’s latest film J. Edgar, in which he plays (you guessed it) J. Edgar Hoover and Werner Herzog’s Into The Abyss, a documentary on a Texas murder that examines the morality of the death penalty. Guest artistic director Pedro Almodóvar will be screening his 1985 film Law of Desire, which he cites as a “fundamental title” in his career.

LAist Movie Review: Fish Tank
Andrea Arnold certainly knows how to speed things up. The British writer/director wasted no time in making the leap from critically acclaimed short film (the Oscar-winning Wasp) to freshman feature film (Cannes Grand Jury Prize-winning Red Road). Yet, with her sophomore film Fish Tank, Arnold proves she’s definitely not moving too fast.

AFI Fest 2006 Tix Go On Sale Tomorrow
Tickets go on sale tomorrow, Friday the 13th, for the 2006 installment of AFI Fest, Los Angeles' valiant (read: sometimes comical, sometimes desperate) attempt to mount a world-class film festival, something this city deserves but sorely lacks. This year AFI Fest will screen 147 feature films and 36 shorts including several special screenings and premieres. Film Fest Season
The Century City Film Festival started yesterday and runs until October 30th. The Festival's theme is “Camp, Cult, Classics” and will screen Brian Austin Green's first feature as a director, "Fish Without a Bicycle."
