The Abbot Kinney gallery space Post No Bills hosted its first solo show Thursday featuring the dark side of pop culture jabbing at children's sugary cereal to the tragic Marilyn Monroe. ENGLISH 101 is a signature mash-up of pop culture and societal satire by multi-media artist Ron English, who lays claim to the term POPaganda.

Historic Post Office Set To Close In Venice
In Venice, a historic post office on Windward Circle is preparing to close down and consolidate operations nearby at the Grand Avenue annex. If a post office moves, who forwards their mail? Inside the building, a mural of Venice founder Abbot Kinney was discovered after being "covered and forgotten for many years," notes ABC Local.
Will There Be Food Trucks at Venice's First Fridays Tonight?
They came, they got kicked out, they found a new home, and now they've (temporarily?) lost their new home. Food trucks and Venice's First Fridays' rocky relationship continues with word today that Bigfoot Entertainment will not be hosting a parcel of mobile eateries in their parking lot during tonight's festivities. It seems in this threesome--Bigfoot, the Abbot Kinney Merchants Association (AKMA) and the SoCal Mobile Food Vendors Association--all is not fair in love and fusion tacos.
Food Trucks Have a New First Fridays Home in Venice
When January 7th rolls around next week, food trucks will be rolling back into Venice to serve the First Fridays folk, thanks to a production company who are offering the ousted mobile eateries a spot to park, free from the merchants' and organizers' scrutiny.
Bigfoot Entertainment, a global production company with headquarters in Venice, has come up with a space for the food trucks...
Venice's First Fridays and Food Trucks in Messy Break-Up
It's the first Friday of the month, which means along Abbot Kinney in Venice it's the monthly First Friday event. Folks hungering for a face-full of food truck fare with their Holiday Art Walk will be sorely disappointed, though, because First Fridays is kicking the "nouveau" meals-on-wheels-mobiles to the curb, according to Yo! Venice!
Task Force Assembled to Study Food Trucks Parking in Venice
First Fridays in Venice draws crowds, and so do the food trucks that park along the vibrant strip of Abbot Kinney to take part in the monthly festivities. However, there has been concern growing about the impact the mobile businesses have on the neighborhood, reports The Argonaut, and now the Neighborhood Council has formed a task force to explore the issue.
Let's Do Lunch: Joe's
There are some great lunches to be had in this town, and we want to celebrate the midday meal. So, let's do lunch, shall we?
Equator Books in Venice to Close Up Shop Sunday
Venice's Equator Books has been a welcoming independent option for book lovers on Abbot Kinney for over five years, but now they have announced that this weekend they are closing their doors for good. In an announcement sent out by email and posted on their website, the bookstore's owners are asking their customers to come by and make a last purchase from their collection of rare, vintage, and specialty books or vinyl:

LAist Goes Shopping: Japanese Art and Design at Tortoise
Tortoise General Store on Abbot Kinney in Venice was opened by husband and wife Keiko and Taku Shinomoto at the end of October 2003, after they moved to Los Angeles from Tokyo. The Shinomoto's envisioned a general store full of beautiful and practical items. Recently they expanded their company to include a gallery space, also on Abbot Kinney.
LAist Goes Shopping: Shareen Vintage
How do you insure that you will never show up to a party to find someone wearing the same dress? Buy vintage. In Los Angeles we have loads of choices for finding fun vintage clothes. We had heard of Shareen's but never had a chance to shop there. Then one day a friend suggested a trip to Shareen's instead of lunch. So we drove off through the warehouse district downtown to find it.
Witness Describes Last Night's Venice Shooting
Someone who allegedly was at last night's shooting in Venice after the Abbot Kinney Festival is making comments on Yelp and on the blog Yo Venice. Here's part of what he had to say on the blog:
Abbot Kinney Festival goes Hotel Cafe Style in Line-Up
This Sunday's free festival on Abbot Kinney in Venice is always a popular community event. What's nice this year is that Hotel Cafe, who is prepping to launch their own record label with its debut "Live from The Hotel Cafe" on iTunes next month, is booking on of the three stages at the festival. Part of their line-up includes recognizable names such as Jesca Hoop, Greg Laswell and Laura Jansen. Also, War Tapes will be playing on a stage produced by Air Conditioned Supper Club. New Parking Lots Coming to Venice
Lots of people wish for good public transportation into Venice. But for now, it ain't happening. And either way, the Abbot Kinney area is not known for its great parking situation.
A Little Taste of First Fridays on Abbot Kinney
The event has been going on for a couple years now, although a bit under the radar. Like Echo Park's First Saturdays, it's more of a neighborhood event with lots of locals. The concept: local merchants open up their doors a little later than usual for a Friday night and invite musicians and supply wine to those perusing the store -- it's all in the name of community and making the boulevard a more popular place to go shop, eat and see art. And as quaint as Abbot Kinney First Fridays are right now, it's actually quite enjoyable. Although, it could definitely use a map. And to that, one merchant said it's on its way and to watch out -- as summer approaches First Fridays on Abbot Kinney are going to be hot.
Go to G2 at First Friday on Abbot Kinney
Getty has its first fridays program. So does the Natural History Museum. However, there's a smaller First Friday in Los Angeles, one with a less grandiose budget, little advertising, but is worth a look at. For the past couple years merchants of Abbot Kinney in Venice stay open until 10pm and often host art gallery openings, live music, or in store events.

Photo Essay: Biking from Downtown to the beach
Remember when you moved to LA just south of Downtown, and you thought all those people who got to live in Santa Monica and Venice and Manhattan Beach were so lucky? Or maybe that was me. Either way, you were (I was) overlooking one of the major advantages of living so far from the beach -- you can bike there and get a great workout!
World, The Time Has Come To Push The Button
We love the creative culture of Venice Beach. Somebody actually took the time to create this metal sign and install it at an intersection on Abbot Kinney. Instead of pointing across the street, the arrow guides pedestrians to a liquor store....
Sitting Outside at Abbot's Pizza Company
On a search for a good drink at a bar and maybe some ice cream down Abbot Kinney in Venice, the smell of good pizza switched those priorities around. We'll spare you a second review and let you read ours from last year, where pizza was compared to sex and readers commented about it being hipster and foo-foo and that nothing tastes better than Chicago deep dish.
Not Your Average Joe's
In a town where most restaurants last about half as long as Nick Lachey’s and Jessica Simpson’s marriage, the Venice staple -- Joe’s Restaurant -- proves that its California-French menu has staying power to last at least thru the rest of Jess’ singing career -- and then some.
