Back in December, LAist speculated that ArcLight would be opening a Pasadena location. Officials back then would not confirm it, but today they are. "The conversion of the Pacific Paseo Theater in the Paseo Colorado center will give our many Pasadena area members the ArcLight experience right at their doorstep," the company said in a statement. "As with our current locations, at ArcLight Pasadena you will be able to enjoy the unparalleled sight and sound of our auditoriums, choose from the same wide variety of films and reserve your seats online with no additional fee. Lucky Boy in Pasadena is a Landmark. It even says so on the menu. Local families and students have been coming to the outdoor stand for over 30 years. The charred burgers come with mild onions, grilled upon request, lettuce, and the buggest tomato you have ever seen. The buns are toasted on the grill, a nice old-school touch. Once again, a Miss California USA contestant is causing controversy and it's not just her anti-gay views, which are in line with former Miss California Carrie Prejean. Lauren Ashley, 23, has been claiming herself as Miss Beverly Hills, but the city of Beverly Hills says they do not sponsor a beauty pageant or have any association with Miss California USA, according to the LA Times. Artist Christian Alderete said it felt like a kick in the face, but suspects the action wasn't with malcontent and would paint it again. Our favorite recent piece of guerilla public art--that giant fork placed, well, at a fork in the road--will be the site of a food drive this weekend, says the LA Times. Benefitting the Union Station Homeless Services, volunteers will collect nonperishable food at the fork, located at Pasadena and St. John avenues, both days this weekend, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The sculpture was a birthday present/prank for Bob Stane, founder of the Ice House comedy club and current owner of the Coffee Gallery Backstage in Altadena. Stane always thought it would be funny if someone did that and his wish was granted by his friends. Now people want to see the piece be a permanent part of the city's public art collection. more ›

As with every weekend (and weekday), police are out to catch drunk drivers. Tonight, we know of two sobriety check points: one in Del Rey and another in Pasadena. From 8 p.m. to 3 a.m., the LAPD will hold a Sobriety & Drivers License Checkpoint at Lincoln Blvd and Maxella Ave at the border of the L.A. city neighborhood Del Rey and unincorporated Marina Del Rey.
