One man was killed after a hit-and-run crash on the 605 freeway at about 5:30 this morning. City News Service reports that the crash, which involved multiple vehicles including a taxi, happened on the northbound side of the freeway just south of Imperial Highway. The victim, who is in his 40s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A description of the hit-and-run vehicle hasn't been released, nor has the man's name.

605 Freeway Shut Down After Big Rig and Motorcycle Collide
The 605 Freeway just north of Whittier Blvd. was completely shut down for a period this morning following an accident involving a big rig truck and a motorcyclist. A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter has been landed on the freeway to take the motorcyclist, thought to be an off-duty Alhambra Police officer, to a nearby hospital for treatment for his injuries. The incident was called in at 8:00 a.m., and a Sig-Alert issued 15 minutes later. The lanes have since been opened slowly, and the Whittier Blvd. on-ramp to the freeway is expected to re-open shortly, according to the CHP.
Car Chase from Redlands Heads into Long Beach [Updated]
Welcome to the first day of Summer. Currently in pursuit is one that began all the way in Redlands in San Bernardino County, heading westbound on the 10, and has made it's way to northbound 405 freeway via the 605 freeway, according to KCAL9-TV and live streaming from KTLA. The suspect was allegedly involved in an armed-robbery. Update: The suspect exited the freeway onto the streets of Long Beach. The chase ended at the Shoreline Village where the suspect hit a dead end. The suspect may have shot himself, according to a report.
Nighttime Freeway Closures on the 10, 605 Freeways This Week
The 405 freeway may be headed to three years of this kind of stuff, but the 10 and 605 freeways are getting some love, too. A $175 million project, expected to debut in winter of 2012, will bring carpool lanes in each direction of the 10 Freeway between the 605 and Puente Avenue. Caltrans warning to expect lane, ramp and even some full freeway closures through Saturday morning, mostly along the 605 this week. Also, $165 million worth of pavement work on the 10 will prompt various lane closures from downtown to Boyle Heights and a little beyond. Full details for both projects are after below.
Overturned Truck Closes EB 210 in Azusa, Traffic Backed up to Pomona
Traffic snarled in the San Gabriel Valley for at least 10 miles after a big rig tanker truck early this morning filpped over blocking all lanes of the eastbound 210 Freeway. At approximately 5:41 a.m., a call came in reporting the incident at Azusa Ave. which appears to be a solo crash with no injuries.
The truck is carrying 50,000 pounds of liquid asphalt material and some of it has spilled out, said California Highway Patrol Office Francisco Villalobos over the phone. A small amount of diesel fuel also leaked.
