Bill Maher on the Writers' Strike: '...There is No Exit Strategy'
Real Time with Bill Maher returned to HBO Friday night sans Maher's talented staff of writers (nominated once again by the WGA for outstanding achievement in a TV Comedy/Variety Series). Following a somewhat contentious panel discussion with Tony Snow, Mark Cuban, Matt Taibbi and Catherine Crier, Maher delivered an emotional critique of the strike, now heading into its 10th week.
4:20 Video: "The Night the Jews Control the Town"
SNL + Darlene Love + Claymation="Christmastime for the Jews."
"Happy Birthday Jesus"
You might hate me for this--I hate one of my roommates for beckoning me over to the television, rewinding the program she'd recorded, and insisting I see this video. It is a trailer clip by musical artist Nassiri, which is currently running as a commercial. We saw it during Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, and apparently it's showing up on other news channels. Some may experience this earnest, enthusiastic tribute to their Savior's upcoming holy day, whereas others might find it to be a sort of psychedelic, assault-on-the-senses, bit of Christianity-meets-Bollywood weirdness.
Here Comes Yet Another Bubble (Redux)
Right about the time we posted the YouTube clip "Here Comes Another Bubble" last week, it vanished from the Web. And so began one of the more intense Web 2.0 dramas of the year. Tonight, The Richter Scales returned with "Here Comes Another Bubble" Version 1.1 and, while it is supposedly infringement-free, it hasn't necessarily been blessed by all.
French Delicates
This Frenchman would have waived a white flag, but surrendered (his family life) to a red one instead.
"It's A Small World" Jingles All the Way
You either love it or you hate it outside the holiday season, what with those vibrantly colored and ceaselessly cheerful international dolls singing about smiles and world peace and love and stuff. So how about when Disneyland's iconic "It's a Small World Ride" decks its halls Christmas-style? This video was taken last year on the ride.
Partying With the Boss Won't Get You Promoted!
Say, what's that in your mailbox? Is it perhaps an invitation to the company's holiday party? It is? Are you worried about making a good impression? Or the inevitability of making a bad impression?
My Sha.. Menorah
Tonight is the 8th and final night of Chanukah and I am exhausted. My kids have lit candles at several parties, made cookies, eaten tons of potato latkes, and opened many presents. Please enjoy our new holiday tradition, the annual viewing of the "My Menorah" video. The tune may be a wee bit familiar to you....
Mark Littel is Nuts: Welcomes Shot to the Groin from High School Girl
Former major leaguer Mark Littel doesn't have balls of steel, but he's got a product that would convince you otherwise. Watch as he takes a direct hit in his, um, strike zone from a pitching machine. On purpose. Without flinching. Littel is promoting the Nutty Buddy as the best athletic cup known to man. He's sunk $40,000 of his own money into the project (designed with the help of a couple golf balls and...
This is How I Spell Chanukah
The LeeVees ask the most debated question of the holiday season. How Do You Spell Channukkahh? Now go eat some latkes and spin some dreidels. Happy 6th Night of Chanukah everyone!...
Spice Up Your Life Redux
The newly reunited Spice Girls hit the stage at the Staples Center for two sold out nights this past Wednesday and Friday. Today's LA Times review says the girls are "thinner and more plastic than ever" and that "the show was even more elaborate and pyro- technic than the British pop group's 1998 L.A. debut at the Forum." However, the article goes on to say that the spectacle "played more like a Broadway production...
Philip Glass's Sesame Street Concerto
A series of animated shorts titled "Geometry of Circles," featuring music composed by Philip Glass, kaleidoscopically tranced out legions of Sesame Street viewers in the early 80's. The clip above features four of these shorts strung together almost seamlessly, even though they were first broadcast separately, in some cases years apart. According to the Muppet Wiki, "Geometry of Circles" dates back to 1979....
Some cheery Cavil...
Christmas time is here and the dudes from Cavil At Rest wanted to take a moment to spread some cheer...like peanut butter...by means of renegade street jam. Despite the jovial nature of this video, you might want to refrain from showing this to the children. There's a mighty, big Christmas spoiler at the end....
Pinker Tones Rock It
Sitting at home catching up on work, there is nothing better than taking a little break to watch one - any one - of the Pinker Tones' videos because they just rock it out. Enjoy!...
New Snoop Video: 'Sensual Seduction'
Parenthetically tagged "sexual eruption," the Doggfather's latest offering is ridiculous -- even if it's not 4:20 when you're watching it.
Scoble Wants to Punch the Designer of the Kindle
Amazon's new revolutionary way to read books blows chunks. How do we know? Because we ignored this week's Newsweek cover story puff piece on the Kindle, and paid attention to the web. Type "kindle sucks" into Google and see what you get. It's not pretty. "The Kindle sucks goat ball sack", says one Twitterer named Dean. Cory from BoingBoing warns of the Awful crap that will soon doom the device and wonders why "Amazon,...
The Writers Just Don't Get It
From the Colbert Report writers. 'nuff said....
Southern Fried Vagina Power
What could make a hilarious skit on Saturday Night Live starring Maya Rudolph is real, completely serious material created by author, lecturer, motivational speaker and TV host Alexyss Tylor. With nuggets of wisdom like “All penises are not created equal,” Tylor has been hosting a cable access show in Atlanta about sexuality with her mother. Although Tylor dominates most of the show, watch for what her mother has to say during discussions on cold...

Arthur Presents: No Age @ the LA River
The wonderful folks over at Arthur Magazine not only organized, but documented the wondrous No Age LA River show Saturday (perhaps you saw the LAist photo essay concert review). This finely edited three-part documentary was conducted by Mark Frohman, Art Director of Arthur Magazine. The videos surfaced merely 24-hours after the show! I'd like to thank Jay Babcock for sending us these links. Parts 1 & 3 after the jump......
"LA is a third world city..."
We are unsure when this ABC report was aired. Nevertheless, it is extremely well done and many of the issues represented here are still current challenges....
A Very Very Very Bad Idea.
This ESPN reporter took a big old bite out of a Naga Jolokia chili pepper -- also known as the Hottest Chili Pepper in the World. Wikipedia says that "one seed from a Naga Jolokia can sustain intense pain sensations in the mouth for up to 30 minutes before subsiding." I doubt there's enough milk in the world to make THAT kind of burn go away....
P.E. With Coach Wiener: Volleyball
What do your game feces -- er, faces look like? Coach Wiener (a.k.a. Honor Student's David Neher) wants to know -- and then he wants to show you how to play volleyball. Like a man. A real manly man. A real manly man with a cowboy tie and a Carmen Miranda fruit headdress.
Anna and Bella
Another favorite animated short by Borge Ring. It may be a tad bit oversentimental, but I can only hope to end up like these two....
Kites not for Kittens
No wind to be found in the Valley today. Guess we won't be kite jumping out here. More impressive kite jumping at the Most Sexiest Kite Chicks video (they actually seem pro, and well, that's sexy too).
