'Legit' by Caldwell's Most Wanted

Before MC Hammer's "Too Legit To Quit," there was a rap called "Legit" by Caldwell's Most Wanted - a little known group from a small town in Texas. Rather than emulating Hammer's mainstream, soft rap approach, CMW took inspiration from West Coast artists like N.W.A and Ice-T. Comprised of six high school students, the group longed to emulate the hard, thug lifestyle of South Central glamourized on Yo! MTV Raps despite their rural backgrounds. more ›

4:20 Video Time: For All Those Who Feel Left Out

A friend of mine told me yesterday that she was feeling left out of all the Christmas merriment--she converted to Judaism prior to her marriage to a member of the tribe--so she sent her husband to the mall to buy her a gift. While my friend is a bit of a nutjob, I can imagine that for those who don't celebrate Christmas today, especially in this age of consumerism, there's a risk of feeling a bit left out. So here's Sarah Silverman's musical plea: "Give the Jew Girl Toys." more ›

4:20 Video: 12 Days of Christmas

I can never remember the lyrics to Christmas carols after the first stanza either. So I know where Straight No Chaser is coming from. more ›

"Happy Birthday Jesus"

You might hate me for this--I hate one of my roommates for beckoning me over to the television, rewinding the program she'd recorded, and insisting I see this video. It is a trailer clip by musical artist Nassiri, which is currently running as a commercial. We saw it during Countdown with Keith Olbermann on MSNBC, and apparently it's showing up on other news channels. Some may experience this earnest, enthusiastic tribute to their Savior's upcoming holy day, whereas others might find it to be a sort of psychedelic, assault-on-the-senses, bit of Christianity-meets-Bollywood weirdness. more ›

A Very Very Very Bad Idea.

This ESPN reporter took a big old bite out of a Naga Jolokia chili pepper -- also known as the Hottest Chili Pepper in the World. Wikipedia says that "one seed from a Naga Jolokia can sustain intense pain sensations in the mouth for up to 30 minutes before subsiding." I doubt there's enough milk in the world to make THAT kind of burn go away.... more ›

P.E. With Coach Wiener: Volleyball

What do your game feces -- er, faces look like? Coach Wiener (a.k.a. Honor Student's David Neher) wants to know -- and then he wants to show you how to play volleyball. Like a man. A real manly man. A real manly man with a cowboy tie and a Carmen Miranda fruit headdress. more ›

"Stop the Madness" 1985 Anti-Drug Music Video

A teacher friend of mine recently mentioned she was preparing an 80s theme party for the graduating seniors of her school. I asked, "Why 80s?" She replied that the seniors were born in 1989 and thus, they were the very last high school class to be born in that decade. I just about spit my drink all over her. I'm aware that we all age, but it still surprises the bejeezus out of me... more ›

Eh, Pardon Me, Sir, But Could You Direct Me To The Shortest Route To The Coachella Valley And The Big Carrot Festival Therein?

Today's 4:20 video finds our hero ears-deep in a 1953 Chuck Jones favorite, slapping a bull in the face, taking a wrong turn at Albuquerque, and trying in earnest to make his way to our very own Coachella Valley. more ›

Daniel Johnston @ Austin Convention Center, 3/16

He's probably best known for his "Hi How Are You" tshirt that Kurt Cobain often wore, but if you don't know Daniel Johnston's music you're really missing out and you should definitely pick up the award-winning DVD, "The Devil and Daniel Johnston". Equally amateurish and darkly genius, Johnston's tunes lie somewhere between Brian Wilson and Wesley Willis while being heavily influenced by the Beatles. more ›

In honor of SXSW, let today's 4:20 video serve as a warning about the dark side of rock and/or roll. more ›

Tickle Me Emo

Stiff competition for today's 4:20 video, but this clip from MadTV featuring "Tickle Me Emo" wins. I especially dig that the reference at the end to Hot Topic. Enjoy! more ›

That Janice Is One Crazy Bitch

Oh Janice. We love to watch her little train wreck. From the Surreal Life to the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, she is, ahem, one of a kind. And she makes no qualms about her being an absolutely crazy bitch, which in a weird way, we wish we saw more of this honesty. So enjoy this 4:20 video and let us know what you would want for your 12 days of Christmas. more ›

Colbert Pokes Fun at California's 31st District

We can't say that we're regular viewers of Stephen Colbert's show, but every now and then he hits it out of the park and thanks to YouTube we get to see those moments without having to fill up our TiVos with the times he doesn't. With that said, his 430-part series "Better Know a District" is pure edutainment hilarity. Recently Colbert visited with 7-term Congressman Xavier Becerra, and thanks to Atwater Village Newbie, we... more ›

Love - "Alone Again Or"

Today's 4:20 video is in memory of Arthur Lee who passed away yesterday. Here the Dorsey High alumn plays with his long-time backing band, Baby Lemonade, who for all intents and purposes were Love mach-two. This is from a concert they performed in London in 2003 which showed how strong his vocals were and how well the music stands up.... more ›
