Overturned Truck Closes EB 210 in Azusa, Traffic Backed up to Pomona

Traffic snarled in the San Gabriel Valley for at least 10 miles after a big rig tanker truck early this morning filpped over blocking all lanes of the eastbound 210 Freeway. At approximately 5:41 a.m., a call came in reporting the incident at Azusa Ave. which appears to be a solo crash with no injuries. The truck is carrying 50,000 pounds of liquid asphalt material and some of it has spilled out, said California Highway Patrol Office Francisco Villalobos over the phone. A small amount of diesel fuel also leaked.

At 12:24 a.m., a pickup truck crashed down an embankment off the 210 Freeway near Osborne St. in the Northeast Valley. It started a one acre grass fire. But not to worry, LA firefighters knocked down the fire in 32 minutes and no one was injured. Phew!

The City of Los Angeles has released these traffic advisories for the two fires.

As the Marek/Little Tujunga Fire expanded to 3,200 acres last night, 1200 residents are now evacuated. The Los Angeles Fire Department launched this map showing the evacuated areas within city limits. Additionally the 210 Freeway is closed between the 118 and 5 freeways as well as four schools. A count of structures burned is unknown at this time, but one LA County Inspector told the LA Times that he could see buildings in a mobile home park and industrial structures burning from a distance.
