M.I.A. struts her stuff at the Echoplex, July 31 UCLA's online student radio station UCLAradio.com has released its list of top 10 most-played albums of 2007. Looks like it was a good year for hip-hop at the station, with the above-pictured third-world jetsetter M.I.A. taking the number one spot. The station also recently put out favorite record lists from many of its managers. Longtime Promotions Director Jason Stern describes his favorites using only lyrics......

When Sharon Stone wears a gown that looks like she's been shot or Lindsay Lohan goes out in public in an insanely sheer dress, Mr. Blackwell considers their candidacy for his annual top 10 worst dressed. Countless actresses and singers made questionable wardrobe choices in 2007. The overexposed, the under-dressed, and the over-the-top take center stage in this yearly ritual. Tomorrow Mr. Blackwell, the well-known fashion critic and designer, will unveil his 48th Annual Worst-Dressed......

I had originally planned to forgo a "best of" list and just talk about all of the movies I enjoyed in this very deep and rich year. After some consideration, though, I decided I should stick my neck out a little bit and go with the best of the best. I'm sure I went with a few outliers and even ignored some consensus picks, but that's why you do these things, right? The hardest......

The most distressing thing about the ten worst movies of the year wasn't even the movies themselves. True, they were all extremely depressing--especially the "comedies"--but nothing was more deflating than the immense amount of money that so many of them made. Their runaway success ensures that 2008 will have no shortage of Grade-A shit. Having said that, here are my ten worst. I can't believe I couldn't find room for Next. 1. Balls of......

The year is coming to a close and, like all procrastinators, I am late on my "Best of" duties. Nevertheless, 2007 was a jam-packed year full of great music. With some very welcome returns, some flops, and some breakout contenders, 2007 was a testament to the ever-changing, ever-exciting musical atmosphere. Anyway, here it is... The Best of 2007: 1. Feist – The Reminder There is a reason that Feist has become as popular as......

Well, depending on where you live, some of us vote. If you got that Voter Info packet in the mail, it is important that you are one of the numbers talked about in tomorrow's news as one of the few who voted. Here are today's races: - Assembly District 39 (East and Northeast Valley, here's a map) - LAUSD District 3 (lots of Valley) - LAUSD District 7 (parts of South LA to the Harbor)......

Red Hot Chili Who? The Good The Bad And The Wha? Clearly, the belle of this year’s 104 degree ball was Pittburgian genius, Greg Gillis, aka Girl Talk. This master sampler/DJ/remixer melted faces on Saturday night with his awe-inspiring, intense nonsense -- super creations of musical hybrids -- a dozen songs spliced together to create something overwhelmingly familiar and entirely new. Energy, energy and more energy -- a giant screen flashed four frames reading......

I knew he was inventive and eclectic but I had no idea he had antlers. Confident and whistling, Andrew Bird delivered a sublime and fascinating set with all the nuance of a small club date -- seemingly oblivious to the entire desert and the thousands of tweaking, dehydrated kiddies twirling toward the tent fringes. No one can resist a violin and a theremin. Below, check out the subtle and unmistakable Dr. Stringz performing, “Plasticities.”......

Today is Groundhog Day, and in keeping with the arbitrary tradition of letting overgrown rodents dictate our seasons, George Bush and his Energy Policy Act of 2005 have decided to give us a large order of Spring, with four extra sides of Daylight Savings. Yes, for real. The bill amends the Uniform Time Act of 1966 by changing the start and end dates of daylight saving time starting in 2007. Clocks will be set......

Donning a trademark jumpsuit and moon-man helmet, Cee-Lo Green of Gnarles Barkley emerged on stage at USC's Galen Center to the tune of a surging, epic, space-odyssey instrumental. Touting the merits of Danger Mouse, Feng Shui, and Crown Royal, our weeblesque hero warmed up the enthusiastic crowd with a string of pervasive, electro-rock/neo-soul, head boppers. Threatening that the party might get “off the chain” to a bunch of arty-indie-college-punks was certainly the booze talking,......

How to celebrate the New Year? With sexy aliens and hyper Santa Clauses (including LisaNova as Dalmation Benjamin Franklin) sandwiching The Flaming Lips on stage. With Gnarls Barkley singing Crazy in a jumpsuit. With Cat Power. The balloons (see the video below), the space ship, the aural atmosphere. A good year to begin 2007.......

New Year's Eve is so overrated. Bars, clubs and restaurants charge up the wazoo for drinks and eats that you'd never think about paying any other night of the year. So if you don't feel like dodging drunks on the freeways at 12:15 a.m., stay in, invite a few friends over and toast to 2007 in the comfort of your own home. While waiting for the ball to drop, why not rent a flick......
