T.I. @ Key Club, 10/3/08 on October 6, 2008

T.I. performs at the Key Club in West Hollywood | Photo by Michael Park courtesy of MySpace Music Just like many of his peers, T.I. has a roster of nicknames as long as the chain around his neck. One of the most popular of those nicknames is "The King of the South," but on Friday night, at the Key Club T.I. was simply the King. T.I. could have easily mailed this show in. His latest... Tonight (10pm) marks the fifth annual installment of VH-1's Hip Hop Honors, a program saluting the contributions of the genre's pioneers and players. This year's honorees include: De La Soul, Slick Rick, Naughty by Nature, Too Shot and Los Angeles' own Cypress Hill. For the last 20 years, the Hill has been rocking mics with their Cannabis laced brand of genre twisting music that combined hip-hop with elements or rock and Latin music. Sen... [continue]

To promote the release of MURS for President, which hit stores today, the LA native will be signing copies and performing at Amoeba tonight at 6:30 pm. MTV viewers might recognize him as that guy with the crazy hair who has been popping up in between episodes of “The Hills.” However, fans of the local hip-hop scene, which LA Weekly recently declared, “for the first time in over a decade, its vital signs are stable,”... Hip-Hop Heavyweights The Game and Bow Wow battled in a game of Madden on Xbox for charity Friday night in Hollywood | Photos by Konsole Kingz Because there is a Michael Strahan-like gap between the amount of fun had in playing a video game and watching someone else play a video game, the answer I most frequently give when posed with the question "Want to watch two guys play Madden in Hollywood?" is "No." However,... Los Angeles drops down to number 16 on Forbes.com's list of Best Cities for Singles. | Photo by Hamed Masoumi via flickr As a city known for its beautiful weather and beautiful people, you'd think it would be difficult to name a more ideal city for singles than Los Angeles. However, Forbes.com, actually found 15 other cities that they think are a better fit for bachelors and bachelorettes in their "8th Annual Best Cities for... [continue]

This Sunday marks the return of the HBO hit series, Entourage. Nominated for five Emmys, the show is a favorite among fans and critics alike. LAist was able to catch up with Rex Lee, who plays Lloyd, the trusty assistant of Ari Gold (Jeremy Piven) to find out what we can expect this season. Did you ever expect this role to go as far as it has? Well I was hopeful in the beginning but... [continue]

On Wednesday, the city of Seattle found out that their SuperSonics would be packing their bags and leaving for Oklahoma City. Thanks to owner Clay Bennett, in 2008-09 there will be no pro basketball in Seattle for the first time in 41 years. "He drained the Sonics' joy out of Seattle," said Seattle Times' columnist Jerry Brewer of Bennett. Cheer up Seattle. It's not all gloom and doom. Some good news for the city arrived... [continue]

According to an independent market-research firm, AIMRCo (Adult Internet Market Research Company), the porn industry, specifically online properties providing adult content and erotic material are experiencing some swollen numbers in recent weeks thanks to the checks of up to $600 for individuals and $1,200 for married couples that the Bush Administration’s Economic Stimulus Plan handed out this spring. In a press release issued today by the firm that “specializes in gathering, interpreting and distributing data... [continue]

As we mentioned earlier today, Los Angeles native Baron Davis is headed home and he's bringing his beard and 21 points per game with him. The former Crossroads School and UCLA standout came to a verbal agreement with the LA's other team, making the Clippers suddenly relevant and a playoff contender. Baron credits the community for his decision telling ESPN, "I'm happy with where I'm going. A big reason is because of the impact and... [continue]

Tomorrow, this will be illegal Photo by berbercarpet via flickr Tomorrow talking on your mobile phone pressed up against your ear while driving will be just as illegal as running a red light, speeding or driving under the influence. In today’s LA Times a spokesman for the CHP, Tom Marshall, said the CHP would enforce the law "fairly and aggressively." What are you planning to do to avoid getting yourself a ticket? The law... Twelve Shiny Nickels offers comedy and beer for about the price of a gallon of gas tonight in Hollywood There's nothing funny about spending nearly five bucks on a gallon of gas, unless you're name is Rex Tillerson or David J. O'Reilly. Those guys and the rest of their big oil buddies are laughing their asses off watching the gas prices rise. Tonight you can slap down an Abe Lincoln and have more to... [continue]

Tito Ortiz and Oscar De La Hoya are going head-to-head tonight...sort of. The arenas - bookstores. The Cahuenga corridor/crawl night spot formerly known as Tokio Lounge is undergoing a complete rennovation and being transformed into Ecco. The new McDonald's "Southern Style Chicken Sandwich" head-to-head with the Chick-fil-a sandwich About once a month, I make the 25-minute trek to Redondo Beach to get a taste of Chick-fil-a (This was the subject of a post I wrote almost exactly a year ago). With the price of gas up around the $4 a gallon mark, this isn't exactly the smartest move, but I believe their chicken sandwich, a piece of chicken on a... [continue]

In 1989 I was chewing on the strings of my glove while patrolling the infield for the North End Little League Tee-Ball Padres in my hometown of Bridgeport, CT. We didn't lose a game. We didn't win either - they don't keep score in tee-ball. That same year, ESPN's Buster Olney began his career as a baseball writer, covering the Nashville Sounds for the Nashville Banner. Rather than get analysis and insight on the 2008... [continue]

LAist had the chance to check in with comedian/radio personality/Emmy Award winning writer Greg Fitzsimmons last night as he drove to Hollywood from the San Manuel Indian Bingo & Casino where he earned a standing ovation, opening up for Artie Lange. Driving from the desert to Hollywood isn't something the Venice Beach resident does on a regular basis, luckily we had access to Google Maps serving as interviewer/navigator to Greg on his journey. The drive... [continue]
