Looks like their parents have been giving them a formal education in comics. I would have to say that these kids are set for life. Aren't they adorable? We were at Wizardworld LA this past weekend and snapped some photos. Follow the trail of breadcrumbs...... [continue]
As if the San Diego Comic Con wasn't enough to satisfy the spandex-loving appetite of the Southern Californian comic book nerd, WizardWorld LA takes over the LA Convention Center this entire weekend. For the cost of $25/day or $45 for the entire weekend (tickets must be purchased HERE in advance!), fanboys + fangirls will have the opportunity to meet modern day comic celebrities including some of my personal favorites Jeph Loeb (The Ultimates 3), J... If you can really only afford to watch one game throughout the entire Pacific Life Pac-10 Tournament, then this is the one. The sports world has been hyping today's UCLA-Cal Men's rematch as the centerfold of this week-long event, given the RECENT CONTROVERSY and tension between the two teams. Defeating UCLA not only means sweet revenge for a "stolen win" (my bruin-centric senses are tingling), but is also Cal's realistic chance at reaching the Pac-10... [continue]
Baby spinach adorns the NY White pizza above, Porco pizza shown underneath. Two of my friends have been raving about this supposed "real Italian/napolitana" pizza in Monterey Park, and after months of accumulated hype I decided to give in and drive 20 miles just for fucking pizza. I even took five other friends in tow for the expedition to Monterey Park, the hotbed for all great cheap eats -- some of my favorites include... [continue]
There were two major controversies surrounding yesterday's Bruin win over Cal. 1. With 7.1 seconds left to go, Cal's Ryan Anderson turned the ball over under full-court pressure from UCLA's Russell Westbrook and Josh Shipp. No foul call. Cal fans claim that a foul should have been called because Westbrook apparently pushed Anderson to the floor, and on top of that he "hacked him in a downward motion" to get at the ball as ESPN's... An 19-year-old Torrance student was arrested last night at UC Davis for possession of partially assembled pipe bombs in his dorm room. More than 400 students were evacuated out of the building last night shortly after 9pm when campus police were tipped off about the possible bomb-making in the dorm of Mark Christopher Woods. It is not clear yet what the student's intentions were, maybe achemical sciences project? CBS5 News up north gets a clip... [continue]

Breakfast of champions pictured above, delivered directly to your apartment/dorm/oral cavity The first thing you blurt out when you walk into Jose Bernstein's is "it's a fuckin' hole in the wall" because it is a fuckin' hole in the wall". But that's never been a problem for UCLA students because what we lack most are money and holes. But Bernstein's is clean, hygienic and delicious so we do it anyway. There is a caveat... [continue]
Heath Ledger's death today was a big loss to the Hollywood community. It is a notable national tragedy when young talent is lost from the spotlight in America, when someone so young and budding has his life cut short. Ledger's death, as well as artists like him reminds that the Academy has an annual tribute for such notable passing -- a tribute that will be completely absent this year if the Oscars don't go... A good friend recently introduced LAist to this clever user-driven food review site. What makes these reviews unique from LA Citysearch are the pictures that accompany all of the food. People casually browsing can "lick" up entries to show their approval, everyone gets to comment on each review -- and best of all, it's LA-Centric. Each review goes dish-by-dish, often with the exact price attached to the picture of the food items. This little...... [continue]
These photos were taken by amateur photographer Chris Mesaros of Santa Clarita, who submitted them to us. We think they're brilliant! Their local government has also posted a neat google map of all the fire incidents. Donation to the rescue efforts can be made here. More great photos after the jump! Best known for her rendition of Rihanna's "Umbrella" on acoustic -- here she's singing Britney's "comeback" single... A Los Angeles native and former UC Berkeley attendee, she recently drew controversy for using YouTube to get her name out à la LonelyGirl15. It worked. Local radio station STAR 98.7 started plugging her single and it soared in sales on iTunes as a result. You can currently catch her touring the country in small venues....... [continue]
"Revelation satisfies all doubts, explains all mysteries except her own, and so illuminates the path of life, that fools discover it and stray no more." - William Cowper Sometimes I wonder how it happened. Pediatric doctors at the Mattel Children's Hospital rallied against President Bush last week upon hearing that he might actually veto a bill that would invest $35 million in children's health insurance, SCHIP. It was vetoed anyway. Ok maybe it's not the worst DVR ever made Oh yes it's the worst. And it's not just me, customers hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it, hate it. The Bruins were lucky enough to get coverage on FSN this time while breaking away from a 10-10 tie at the half to outlast Washington 44-31 last night. Washington's Jake Locker threw three deadly touchdown passes in the fourth quarter. It was a difficult game for the Bruins, until the Huskies' defense started to give during the second half. Each touchdown pass that Locker completed, the Bruins were able to respond to until finally opening...... [continue]
Photo by imacri via Flickr You're still running to Eye of the Tiger? Then it's time to download some new tunes for your run. Most of these songs are much more aggressive than Eye of the Tiger -- Hard Metal Rock, Techno and Industrial. For people like myself, it's difficult to find good songs to run to. Everybody likes Coldplay but you can't really run to it. Here at LAist we like to encourage...... [continue]
