It seems Saturday's National Prop 8 protest in all 50 states was a tipping point. Not the same tipping point that beget large passionate protests and rallies on a daily basis outside the Mormon Temple in Westwood, but the type of tipping point where people are done protesting and now starting to put the pieces back together, plan for the next move and wait (but yes, protests are still going to happen no matter what).... Around 120 people protested last night in front of El Coyote on Beverly Blvd. over the well-known restaurant manager's donation of $100 to support Prop 8 that eliminated gay marriage in California. On Wednesday, Marjorie Chrisoffersen wrote a letter to the community expressing her feelings on the matter. "I have been sick at heart that anyone has been offended by me," she said noting that the restaurant has been popular with the gay community. She... [continue]

Many Angelenos assume that Coldwater Canyon Park is just part of Fryman Canyon - which is somewhat true (the 45-acres that comprise Coldwater Canyon Park is part of a 1,000-acre "cross-mountain" park that includes Wilacre, Fryman, and Franklin Canyon Parks) - but whereas Fryman's up-and-over the canyon hike is a well-traveled treadmill/stroller route for superfit soccer moms and gymgoers - a southern turn over to the Coldwater Canyon side leads to a markedly different neighbor.... Women in Boxes on July 26, 2008

What are magic assistants? Are they simply uneducated bimbos parading around in skimpy polyester clothes? Or is there more to these women than meets the eye? Why does the violence against females in magic illusions continue to fascinate us? What are the origins of violence in magic? (This is from the film's promotional material, rest assured I would never think a magician's assistant is an uneducated bimbo, Pam-Anderson-in-Vegas nonwithstanding. You don't trust your body parts... [continue]

Weed Review: Master Kush on June 29, 2008

We got our hands on this from a guy who dropped this off after his softball game, and needed a shave. It's called Master Kush and we paid $70 for an 8th of the goodness. It's a hindu/skunk hybrid that originates from Holland, and this indica/sativa mix will be your best friend on a sleepless night. You'll be sleeping in no time. Pre-Smoke Examination: Its covered with crystals that glisten in the light like... [continue]

California Shuttle Bus, a self-proclaimed "upscale" transport connecting Los Angeles and the Bay Area, has announced a new $5 service for those of us who would like to get from LA to SF without the hassle of high gas prices and expensive airfares. The new prices take effect beginning next Monday; the shuttle company is also offering expanded hours and pick-up/drop-off services for certain Westside neighborhoods. From the press release: "We have noticed increasing... [continue]

The latest food-wise buzz coming out of Hollywood these days is Kitchen 24, the new all-night, all-day trendy diner that has easily already become part of the Cahuenga Crawl itinerary. The food is decent enough and the service was clumsy (yet pretty fast). But that won't stop hoards of people patronizing the clad white restaurant, complete with full bar and DJ set up. That's because of one important factor: location. Nestled between two bars, Citizen... [continue]

How to Dine at the new Gordon Ramsay at the London in West Hollywood: Step 1: Make a reservation This is surprisingly easy. Unlike the restaurants in Ramsay's New York London Hotel, The Gordon Ramsay is practically a ghost town. Maybe it's because Gordon Ramsay is not at the helm. Neither is the chef-who-cannot-be-named winner of this season's Hell's Kitchen. Who is at the helm anyways? For now, Andy Cook, formerly of Gordon Ramsay at... [continue]

Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., goes for a bike ride in Chicago, Sunday, June 8, 2008.(AP Photo/Alex Brandon) Presidential candidate Barack Obama took a relaxing Sunday bicycle ride with his family to a friend's house and then on a beachside ride. It's sexy that he's sporting a helmet, too (even if some say it was an unflattering choice). Republican blogger, The Cycling Dude, plans to vote for McCain, but always is on... [continue]
