Ken Layne is the West Coast editor of Wonkette.com. Each week he makes another ridiculous claim about his LAist feature: This week, it's apparently a real-estate column or something!
How about paying $1,500 a month for 30 years for a no-bedroom loft over a single-car garage in a cramped corner of Echo Park? With six grand per year in property taxes and insurance and maintenance, that's $24,000 a year for three decades -- $720,000 in all, not counting property-tax and insurance increases, and not counting catastrophes.
That's what you get at 1416 Fairbanks Place, just off Echo Park Avenue north of Sunset, for the asking price of $295,000 or $893 per square foot, not quite double the 90026 norm.

Maybe we shouldn't be emphasizing this tip so we can keep our parking spots open in busy areas of the city. But we're feeling generous to those who read LAist on Sundays and we still seem to shock a new person everyday with this parking tip that the LACityNerd taught us so long ago.
Yellow Loading Zones are only in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. So take advantage all day Sunday and after 6 p.m. in the evenings. The same applies to Green Zones except you get an extra hour in the morning since it takes effect starting at 8 a.m.
Some things to remember are that White Loading Zone signs are enforced 24/7 unless otherwise noted and this tip is for within the City of Los Angeles. We do not know if this goes for Santa Monica, West Hollywood, Culver City etc. Also, additional signs giving restrictions can override the Yellow Loading Zone rules. So you need to check and read all the signs carefully. We often get excited near Hollywood and Highland when we find our favorite yellow sign only to pull up and see a tiny sign with some further restrictions. Grrrrrr...
Another Great Tip

Finding a parking spot in LA is like looking for a glass of water in the desert, it's a pain in the ass to find one and once you do, it's never large enough. Thankfully the curators of the Parking Lot Art Show have this covered.
The Parking Lot Art Show is a new art show happening at the Sunset Junction, and is presented in eight moving trucks, featuring the works of photographers, painters, and designers. The show was put together by two couples, Eric and Christa Pfleeger, and Christine and Gareth Kantner. Eric is an art director turned stay-at-home dad, Christa is an advertising photographer, Christine is a producer and Gareth who is the owner of Cafe' Stella.
The show will be taking place at the Sunset Junction, in the parking lot behind Cafe' Stella, from 5-11pm.
LAist sat down with Eric to talk more about the people involved and the details of the show.
First off, tell us a little about yourselves and how you all met.
Eric: I studied Studio Art at Humboldt State before going to Art Center College of Design to study Advertising. That's where I met my wife, Christa who is now an advertising photographer. I lived and worked in New York for 7 years after school and re-united with Christa there. We are now living in Pasadena, Christa shoots for clients like Mini Cooper, Pac Sun, Apple, and Rip Curl. I stopped with the agency thing and became a stay-at-home dad. Our partners in this, Christine and Gareth Kantner own cafe Stella and Christine is a producer as well. That's how we originally met them - Christine was working on a job with Christa and she was super cool.
What was the inspiration or motivation behind the show?
Eric: Christa has had this idea of artists showing in trucks, originally U-Hauls, since she was at Art Center. Christine and Gareth have been wanting to do a gallery and the two worlds collided in their parking lot. They both had awesome attitudes right away. Gareth is giving up his busiest night and getting a liquor license so we can serve wine out there and Christine got us all the trucks donated.
What artists are going to be in the show?
Eric: We’re thrilled to have Brigitte Sire, Anna Wolf, Michael Perry, Laurie Wilson, Kristen botshekan, Mearone, Jonathan Wellerstein, 20mg, and Diego Cardosa.
