There was a wildfire brewin' in the hills of Altadena earlier this afternoon:
The fire began about 1:30 p.m. and was fought by helicopters. Several dozen hikers were evacuated from the mountain trails leading to the Flores Canyon area in the Los Angeles National Forest. The fire was contained above the tree line though there were homes within a few miles of the blaze. No evacuations had been ordered by 2:30 p.m., [Capt. Mike] Brown [of the LA County Fire Dept.] said in a telephone interview. (LA Times)

Because no one was seriously injured in this afternoon's fire in West Hollywood, it's probably ok to bust with some tasteless jokes.
But we wont lower ourselves to that level. In fact we won't even snicker that the fire started at 4:30pm, mere minutes after the infamous 420 which many in WeHo celebrate.
(Here in EaHo we celebrate it too)
Instead we will simply run this photo sent to us by Scott from Boi From Troy, and quote a source from the mainstream media, even though they usually blow.
A fire broke out at Micky's on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood on Tuesday afternoon."I would totally be blogging this [story about the fire] but BoiFromTroy is in the final stages of a total revamp, prompted by a Denial of Service/Malicious attack and other evil gremlins, and a change of server," Scott wrote in an email to LAist. "In all of this, I remembered the bar's theme for its fire-truck Pride Float this year... 'West Hollywood's FLAMING gay bar.'"Santa Monica Boulevard was shut down in the area, so fire crews could get to the blaze.
The flames from the fire shot through the two story building's roof. Dozens of firefighters reported to the blaze, with some going on the roof of the building to battle the flames. KABC

Around 4pm today a one-acre fire broke out within sight of the Griffith Park Observatory. ABC has been running indepth coverage, although there is very little news online and no photos available at this time. Hikers have been evacuated. If anyone knows anyone who may be hiking in the park, they are being asked to contact them on cell phones. Visitors to the Observatory were evacuated from the building and were being kept in the parking lot at the time that ABC switched back to its normal programming around 5:15 pm. It appears the observatory area has been evacuated now at 6 pm and the fire is almost contained. Two to five acres between the Observatory and the Hollywood sign have burned. I can smell the smoke as I type this post.
From the San Jose Mercury News:
LOS ANGELES—A small brush fire broke out in Griffith Park Tuesday, prompting visitors to evacuate the park's landmark observatory. The 1-acre fire was reported around 4 p.m. down hill from the Griffith Observatory, city fire spokesman Ron Myers said.Fire officials said there was no mandatory evacuation order, though TV news crews captured crowds of visitors leaving the observatory as the fire burned on a nearby ridge. Helicopters were making water drops and there was minimal wind.
No further details were immediately available.
A representative of the observatory had no immediate comment.
A wildfire blackened 820 acres of Griffith Park in May, forcing the closure of the three-domed observatory, a zoo and other facilities in the sprawling urban park.
