FAQ

  1. Can anyone write for LAist? No. But we'd love to hear from you if you are interested. LA is a big place and it is nearly impossible to cover it all but we'd sure like to try so if you feel there is an area of interest about the city that we're not writing about but that you'd love to write about, drop us a line. This is a labor of love so all we promise on a monthly basis is a get together where drinking will be had and conversation will be good. At present, there is no pay.
  2. I have an event I would like to publicize. Can I send LAist a press release? Of course you can. You want to send press releases to Our TIPS email.
  3. Where do I send news tips, gossip, rumors or anything else I think the fine people at LAist should know about? Email us. We love tips, inside details and the like.
  4. My business would like to advertise on LAist. Can we? You bet. And, if you're interested in working with us on a contest, promotion or giveaway of some sort contact Lindsay.
  5. Does LAist have an RSS feed? You betcha.
  6. I have a website about Los Angeles and I want you to link to it! We'd rather leave the blogroll in 2007 where it belongs. But if you run or know of a great site, send a note to our TIPS email and we'll take a look.
  7. What happened to the Coffee Bean reviews? 2005 called and wants its question back.
  8. What about Good Grove/Bad Grove? Once we solved the parking mystery we stopped going.
  9. Why do bars stop serving alcohol so early in this crazy town? We've been wondering that ourselves.
  10. You guys are always making mistakes and typos and I have a need to let you know it bothers me. What do I do? First off, calm down. We are human beings, and we don't all sit in a huge office with cubicles where each story gets fed through a copy-editor. Sometimes a post, from start to finish, is created and published within 5 minutes. That's fast, yo. We don't want to make mistakes, and we hate them, too. Your snarky comment isn't going to endear you to us or help your mission to eradicate the handful of typos and flubs that show up in our average 700 monthly posts. A nice email with the error pointed out and the url of the post will help--and we will happily fix it. Want to volunteer to be a full time copy editor? The job pays $0 and it's 7 days a week, 25-35 posts a day. Let us know.
  11. Why do you publicize the time and location of DUI checkpoints? Isn't that going to help more drunk drivers get away with it? Numerous law enforcement agencies supply the media with details of various levels regarding planned DUI and license checkpoint operations, with the expectation that information will be published. The philsophy of law enforcement is that people are more likely to be influenced to designate a driver, take public transit, call a cab, or stay home instead of driving drunk into a checkpoint, and that intoxicated drivers are not likely to make note of the location of a checkpoint before getting behind the wheel. Law enforcement sees checkpoints as an education opportunity, and a way to influence behavior. And, they don't announce every checkpoint, so by taking another route, it doesn't mean you're the wiser. It's a controversial issue, we agree. In 2010, we spoke with LAPD Chief Charlie Beck about it. You can expect us to continue to publish some DUI checkpoints.
  12. LAist did a story on me in 2008, but now I don't like the picture you used and it comes up all the time in Google search. Will you change it? Can your high school change your 1998 yearbook photo? Would you even ask? Does that answer your question?
  13. OMG WTF did you do the site, it's so hard to read and I miss how things used to be!!! Inhale. Exhale. Change happens. You'd kinda hate your life if it never changed, right? So we make design changes. Pretty view is actually pretty, if you give it a chance. We're still working on improving it. But if you are clinging to yesteryear, click over to Blog View (top right on the main page). It was there all along. It's going to be okay. We love you, despite your unwillingness to move into the future.
