Food Truck and Car Collide in Intersection Near Downtown [UPDATED; Woman Killed]
UPDATE March 21, 2012 8:15 AM: The driver of the food truck died as a result of the collision. 55-year-old Elba Escobar was at the wheel of the 1984 GMC catering truck, and was struck by 61-year-old man driving a 1991 Mercedes-Benz, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
Escobar was trapped inside the truck when it tipped over. She was transported to the hospital, where she died a short time later. A 38-year-old woman also on board the catering truck was injured, as was the driver of the Mercedes-Benz.
"The exact cause of the collision has not been determined, but one of the drivers may have failed to stop for a red light," notes the LAPD. "Drugs or alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the collision, but the investigation is ongoing.

An accident involving a food truck and car left two people injured this afternoon--and the truck on its side. The collision took place at just before 3 p.m. at Washington Boulevard and Union Avenue, reports City News Service.
The unidentified food truck was headed eastbound on Washington, while the vehicle was headed south on Union, said an officer with the Los Angeles Police Department's Central Traffic Division.
The officer added that two people were taken to hospitals for treatment, but their conditions were not yet available.
