In a rather ironic partnership, producer Brett Ratner has teamed up with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) to produce and direct an educational video campaign. Why the irony? If you'll remember, Ratner stepped down from his producer post of the 84th Academy Awards on November 8 after blurting out a "gay slur" at a screening event. During a Q&A following a screening of his film, "Tower Heist," Ratner used the term "fag." And he wasn't referring to a cigarette.

The campaign will "feature Hollywood celebrities, athletes, musicians, and politicians 'coming out of the closet' as supporters of equality. They will share personal stories about why and how they support the LGBT community and call on Americans to do the same," according to GLAAD.

Herndon Graddick of GLAAD told CNS, "Straight allies are crucial to creating a culture in which LGBT people are respected and supported."

Making amends with GLAAD post-insult, Ratner says, "Working together with GLAAD has been a very positive and enlightening experience for me, and I could not be more pleased to be developing this crucial campaign to help educate people that we all share the same humanity."

We wonder if Eddie Murphy will follow in Ratner's footsteps yet again and contribute the campaign.
