The golf club-wielding Menifee man responsible for the brutal death of a neighbor's dog has been charged with one felony count of animal cruelty, the district attorney's office announced Tuesday.

Larry Edward Jaurequi, 58, allegedly struck Lily, a 6-pound Chihuahua, with his golf club January 26. The pooch, along with a poodle mix, were roaming the neighborhood after escaping from their owner's property on Summitrose Drive near High Ridge Circle while she was taking out the trash.

Riverside County sheriff's deputy Sergio Rodriguez said Jaurequi approached Lily in the cul-de-sac in front of his home "without reason or cause" and "swung the club against the Chihuahua as if driving a golf ball off its tee," according to CBS LA. "The force of the swing sent the animal flying through the air," said Rodriguez. Jaurequi wound up in his backswing for round two but was stopped by witnesses.

Lily's owner, Barbara Hitchman, arrived on the scene shortly after the incident and rushed Lily to a veterinary clinic. The tiny 9-year-old canine suffered a lacerated liver, brain damage and a leg fracture and died at the center. The poodle mix was unharmed.

Hitchman said Jaurequi "taunted" her when she approached him at the scene. "He told me to get lost, to get outta here, what had happened to her would happen to me," she said. Jaurequi was arrested the same day of the incident.

Currently free on $5,000 bail, Jaurequi is due in court March 22. North County Times says Jaurequi could also face an enhanced charged of using a dangerous or deadly weapon. If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison.

Perfect asshole to donate his body to science while living. We could only hope we hear this guy was brutally murdered in jail.

  • Rocknrope

There's a reason why animal cruelty is a crime.  Can someone please Anonymous/4chan this prick?

  • Only four years?
I seriously hope that he gets beaten and rapped.

  • With any luck, the police might "accidentally" put him in a cell with a huge, hulking dog lover who will be glad of the chance to play "golf" with his head and testicles.

  • BombaySplashVermouth

    Disgusting bastard.

  • Don't get me wrong, I dislike those rodents. I wouldn't kill them though.

  • BrassMonkeyBallz

Burn that mother fucker. no trial no process. fuck him. He dosent deserve the the oxygen he is sharing with the rest of us.

    BURN HIM.

  • katenonymous

I can only hope that he is put in a prison full of Chihuahua owners.

  • Dead Himmler

I don't understand how anyone can think about doing something like this. There is no hole big enough never mind the fact that there is no way to any top spin.

  • hamburgerhelpless

that sentence is WAY too light.  whether you're a dog-lover or not, that kind of act is pretty indicative of bigger psychological problems in my book....

  • MTkill_a_manJaro

what the fuck? Im not trying to go all PETA on this (and i dont even like chihuahuas all that much either) but this guy is fucking scum. This was completely unprovoked and if it wasnt, what possibly could a tiny dog have done to warrant this kind of abuse?

He should get a few dozen lashings with a set of golf clubs and then be sodomized repeatedly with the same clubs after they've been wrapped in sandpaper

  • TheRealCannibal

Seriously?  What an asshole.  He would be better used as dog food

  • D.B

Wow ! WTF is Wrong With YOU ?

  • TheRealCannibal

    following me now?

  • D.B

No, We just keep walking into the same room ! Why don't you just go home !

  • TheRealCannibal

    lying stalker!

  • ShakinBoots

I'd like to volunteer to dish out this asshole's punishment by using his tiny little shrively balls as golf balls. Pass me the club.

Seeing Lily in her cute little turtleneck sweater, being able to put a face to the story, makes it even more heartbreaking :*( How can anyone not consider that animals are living creatures, with real feelings and real pain.

  • Rosemary_Woodhouse

The little sweater...it really does make it sadder for some reason. Poor little girl. Gosh, I'm just so incredibly sad for her owner. I would need some serious therapy if something this horrible happened to my pet.

  • ShakinBoots

Me too.  It's hard enough when a pet dies naturally, but to know your sweet little dog was murdered so brutally has to be so hard to sort out emotionally.

I think the pic shows how comfortable this dog was, how much she was loved and cared for, how she was a part of someone's family.  Maybe that's what drives the saddness a little harder?  I don't know, but it made my eyes water just looking at it.

  • What an idiot. Animal killers are a few steps away from people killers.

  • dirty 30's

They only suitable punishment is to use him as a golf ball...several times
