A naked man climbed to the top of a tower in downtown this afternoon.

Witnesses said not only is he naked but he's been gesticulating wildly and yelling. An LAPD spokesman confirms with City News Service that, yes, the man "appears to be mentally unstable" and he's threatening to jump.

The man scaled the multi-story tower just before 4 pm this afternoon. The tower is located on the eastern end of downtown on Temple Street near the city's personnel building.

UPDATED 2/9: He's alright, and police were able to lure him down with some Mickey D's.

The cops later got him down. Here is the story from City News Service:

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man climbed a 228-foot-tall Los Angeles Police

Department radio tower in downtown  today and stayed up there for nearly six

hours until police used a basket provided by the Los Angeles Fire Department to

    get him down.

The man shed his clothes as he climbed the tower at a city building at

700 E. Temple St., near Center Street, shortly before 4 p.m.

Police tried to convince the man to come down, but finally decided to

the basket, said Los Angeles Police Department Officer Karen Rayner.

The man, who was in his 30s, was lowered to the ground and taken to a

hospital by 10:45 p.m., said Rayner. He did not resist, she said.

A police department official earlier suggested the man had mental issues.

The man will not be charged with a crime and his name will not be

    released, police said.
