Plays in Progress: HUNKA by Larissa FastHorse @ The Autry, 2/12/12

For 13 years, the Autry has housed a program called Native Voices, which is devoted to developing the voices of Native American playwrights. The latest series to come out of the program is called "First Look," which presents plays that are still in progress.

On Sunday, February 12 at 2:30 p.m., First Look will present HUNKA, written by Larissa FastHorse and directed by Laurie Woolery. According to a statement from the museum, HUNKA deals with heavy-hitting themes like teen pregnancy, adoption and redemption from past mistakes.

FastHorse is affiliated with the Sicangu Lakota Nation tribe, and was awarded the 2010 National Endowment for the Arts Distinguished New Play Development Grant. She's commissioned works for the Kennedy Center Theatre for Young Audiences and the Cornerstone Theatre.

Tickets to HUNKA are free, and the performance will be at the Wells Fargo Theater at the Autry National Center.
