11-Year-Old Boy Shot While Sleeping in his Bed
An 11-year-old boy was shot in the knee as he lay sleeping in his bed in Santa Fe Springs last night, reports City News Service.
The boy was hurt when about five gunshots were fired into the house at about 11:00 p.m. An infant who also lives in the house wasn't hurt, nor were any of the other residents.
After being taken to the hospital, KTLA reports that the boy has a cast on his leg but will need surgery for his knee, which was shattered.
Early reports said that police didn't know whether the shooting was gang-related, or even whether the house had been deliberately targeted. But later reports suggest that police are becoming more confident that the incident did have something to do with a gang, and that the shots were possibly intended for a different resident of the house.
