During a SWAT team standoff in Arleta Tuesday night, a young woman stole a police squad car and enjoyed a brief joy ride.

Police officers and a SWAT team had barricaded an assault suspect in a home around 7pm when the woman hopped into a patrol car, which was being used by an officer guarding the perimeter of the barricade.

Emergency dispatchers received a report just moments after the heist that the car had been found abandoned several blocks from the scene.

Police do not believe the woman was associated with the barricade, reports CBS LA, but are searching for the thief. The suspect is described as Hispanic, about 20-years-old, 5'5", having a dark pony tail and wearing a dark hoodie.
