Maya Rudolph, BFFS With Dog That Dug Up Human Head In Hollywood Hills

Funnywoman Maya Rudolph stopped by the Conan set Monday night to chat about Oprah, Brangelina and her hit NBC show Up All Night with host Conan O'Brien. But instead of just focusing on "Maya, Maya, Maya," the comedian spends about three minutes revealing her connection to a grim local news story that's made international headlines. Rudolph promises that "this is a true story" and tells the audience (and the world) that her friend's dog discovered the human head, which belonged to Hervey Medellin, near the Hollywood sign in Bronson Canyon Park on January 17.

"My girlfriend has been going through this really bizarre, horrific ordeal," says Rudolph, followed by a brief description of the homicide case. "It was my friend's dog," she says. Rudolph's Up All Night costar Will Arnett broke the news to her as she walked into work after the head was found.

She apparently knows the pooch well. "His name is Ollie," she says. "He's a golden retriever, and he likes balls." The audience giggles. "And I think he's a digger. And so he was digging, and he came out all proud with this bag and something fell out. And it was the head."

Rudolph explains that police kept Ollie in the back of a squad car for four hours while they questioned the dog walker. Conan adds that Ollie was quite traumatized by the incident. Rudolph's friend - Ollie's owner - snapped a photo of the dog to capture his "freaked out" expression while seated in the car.

"Ollie's really been through some shit," concluded Rudolph.

  • That's nothing. I'm friends with the dog walker

  • Ollie is a dog.  He was not "traumatized." If anything, he was disappointed that he didn't get to snack on what he had dug up.

  • He was probably unhappy about being locked in a police car for four hours.
