Campaign To Bring Back The Best Vegan Sandwich In L.A.

Native Foods Café fans are proving that you've gotta fight for your right for a good vegan sandwich. While we recently brought you the good news of the vegan restaurant chain coming to the Westside (and 14 other locations this year!), today we're hitting you with some somber information: The Classic Deli Reuben, one of our favorite Native Foods offerings, has been banished from the menu. But famished fans are fighting back via Facebook.

When we stopped by the Culver City location Saturday night, we were shocked to learn the rumors were true. The Reuben is no more. After drilling the cashier, we were informed that the devastating removal is to simply keep the menu fresh. Not feeling as fresh as we did before being slapped in the face with the new menu, we shed a few tears, settled on another (not as delicious but still delicious) sammie and scribbled across and down two comment cards voicing our need for the return of the Reuben.

The Facebook page, "Native Foods - Bring Back the Reuben & Baja Surf Tacos," claims that once the page receives 500 "likes," the eatery will do as they're told: They will bring back the Reuben (and apparently the Baja Surf Tacos, too). The page feels that Native Foods' "decision to nix these items seems to be based on their rapid expansion and thus a monetary consideration - and not based on popularity."

Currently, a meager 70+ people have clicked "like." Now, we know there are other, perhaps more important campaigns on your mind, like those of the 2012 presidential race and others via Change.org striving to save lives, but if you feel how we feel about the scrumptious layers of marinated Native Seitan, grilled rye bread, Native Horseradish Cheese, sauerkraut, creamy Russian dressing and pickles, perhaps you, too, can find it in your heart (and growling stomach) to join the campaign.
