Downtown denizens might be used to helicopters weaving through the airspace above them, but this week it wasn't just news crews or the LAPD: the military is practicing its urban maneuvers.

The military busted out Blackhawk and OH-6 helicopters that hovered and wove through the air from the L.A. Live to Dodger Stadium, according to CBS Los Angeles. The LAPD is working with the military on its training exercises that will continue through today. Chief Warrant Officer David Duran, who flies Blackhawk helicopters for the National Guard in California, says the training could be a dry run for a future mission in another city far, far way.

"They do a lot of mockup training," Duran said. "But it's always best to get the closest terrain layout to what the objective is."

  • Why are they having drills in coastal cities like miami, boston, and la.  Can anyone say FEMA?

It should be news for the reason that the LAPD and the military are joining forces, the MILITARY! Can't you people see what this means? It's nothing more than the militarization of the police. They start with 'mock' exercises, then gradually, the police becomes militarized; torturing, killing innocents, like in Iraq, Afghanistan, their presence ubiquitous.
Gotta desensitize first though, and this is one of those first steps. Most cops don't ask questions anymore, they simply shoot first, and ask questions afterwards.

  • That's funny I didn't know the LAPD had any legal authority to operate in a city far far away.  If it was only Special Forces, it would be believable.

This is news? You should come on over to Venice... we get 'copters every time Lindsay Lohan sneezes.
