Man Arrested For Nearly Beating Puppy To Death
Police have arrested a 26-year-old San Diego County man on suspicion of beating his 4-month-old Siberian husky nearly to death. The puppy's injuries were so severe that veterinarians were forced to euthanize him.
Phillip Shawn Rich brought his dog Knight to a veterinary hospital for care on Saturday night, but his description of how the pup was injured did not fit the injuries, reports L.A. Now. The pooch's injuries "were so grave that," according to U-T San Diego, "euthanasia was the only humane option." Details on the puppy's injuries have not been released.
The veterinarians alerted the county Department of Animal Services that the husky appeared to have been beaten, and police arrested Phillip Shawn Rich at his home in Crest on Sunday.
Rich was arrested on a felony animal abuse charge and is being held at San Diego County jail on $25,000 bail. His arraignment is set for January 25.
The case is now in the hands of the district attorney's office.
