Car Crash Kills Wife After Husband Falls Asleep At The Wheel

Texting on a cellphone while driving can be fatal, but so can a lack of sleep. An apparently fatigued man fell asleep at the wheel this morning, crashing his car and killing his wife.

Leonides Ricalde was driving westbound on Vanowen Street in Canoga Park around 6am when he dozed off and crashed into a tree and a parked vehicle. His wife, 49-year-old Maria Yuribelca, was not wearing a seatbelt and was rushed to West Hills Hospital & Medical Center. She died shortly after her arrival.

Any witnesses are asked to call LAPD Detective Michelle Russell of the Valley Traffic Division at 818-644-8028 or 877-LAPD-24-7, according to City News Service.
