Among Marin's real-life gaffes include dozing off during an orientation session (day one), putting his tie on backwards, and flunking some role-playing exercises. When he flunked the second test scenario, "Marin was dismissed from the academy," describes the Times.
Of course, it didn't end there for Marin; he re-enrolled and graduated. Then, in 2010, he took part in a plot to smuggle heroin into the courthouse jail via a bean and cheese burrito, a crime for which he turned himself in this week, and now faces prosecution. It also got him booted from his job with the LASD.
On "The Academy," Marin spoke of his chops and what he needed to do to make it: "I do have what it takes to become a deputy. I just got to take it more seriously." Alas, it seems Marin's 15 minutes are more than up.
