If a lack of money was your excuse for refusing a hiking invitation this weekend, you'll have to use your backup reason. In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, which falls on Monday, January 16, the Angeles National Forest will waive fees for visitors.

Fees at trailheads and U.S. Forest Service-managed day use sites for hiking, fishing and other recreational pursuits will be waived Saturday, January 14, through Monday, January 16.

Forest Supervisor Thomas A. Contreras said, "To honor a great champion of civil rights, the normally required National Forest Adventure Pass will be waived this weekend," reports City News Service. "We are working to ensure as many visitors as possible can experience the numerous recreational opportunities the Angeles National Forest has to offer."

Campground, reservation, group-site and concession fees may still be in effect.

Take advantage of these three free days, Los Angeles. The next free day isn't until June 9, honoring National Get Outdoors Day.
