The UCLA football team is down three players, as was announced by new coach Jim Mora on Monday. Mora dismissed two players today, while a third failed to meet the school's academic standards and is no longer a UCLA student.

In a written statement, Mora, who took the reigns as coach on January 2, said, "Redshirt sophomore defensive end Wesley Flowers and freshman tight end Raymond Nelson violated team rules and are no longer members of the team, while junior defensive back Randall Carroll is no longer enrolled at UCLA," reports LA Daily News.

Laying down the law, Mora dismissed the duo shortly after holding his first team meeting on Monday. The Daily Bruin reported on another portion of Mora's written statement.

"At UCLA, we have a high set of standards that we expect every student-athlete to adhere to. Unfortunately, these three gentlemen choose not to do so."

L.A. Times describes the players as follows:

Carroll was the California 100- and 200-yard champion as a senior at Los Angeles Cathedral High School in 2009. He came to UCLA as wide receiver but had only 21 receptions in three seasons and was making the transition to defensive back.

Nelson, a freshman, appeared in eight games. Flowers, a redshirt freshman, has struggled with injuries since he came to UCLA.
