Detectives in Irvine arrested a Burger King cashier yesterday after watching him pocket the change a mentally disabled adult woman gave him for her lunch.

The parents of the woman noticed that day after day their daughter was coming home without any change leftover from lunch, according to the OC Register. Her parents thought that she might be forgetting the change or losing it, but eventually they developed a suspicion that a worker was actually stealing from her. They called up police, who set up a sting of sorts. Detectives ate lunch and watched as Ballinas never rang up the sale and pocketed the money for himself.

The worker Luis Maximino Lucero Ballinas, 42, was arrested on suspicion of committing theft against a dependent adult. "This is the one little bit of independence this person has, and to be victimized is awful," Irvine police Lt. Julia Engen told the Register.

Just last month another fast food cashier in Irvine — this time at Chick-fil-A — was fired after she rang up two Asian customers as "Ching" and "Chong."

All the burger kings have cameras pointed at the register - wouldn't have been easier to just have management go through the tape the day she lost it - especially after they were informed by the police of the investigation?

The guy is a dirtbag, but it seems like there was a lot more work than needed.

  • Stay classy Irvine!
