Chico's Angels
The year is new, the weather is warm and the local events are fresh. Tonight's lineup features George Melrod, Rusko, The Moth and a trio of Latina drag queens - Chico's Angels. There's a little something for everyone, so read on and get out.
LECTURE
As part of the ongoing lectures series "In Conversation" at Bergamot Station Arts Center, George Melrod will chat with artists showcased in "The Gleam in the Young Bastard's Eye: Finish Fetish & The Continuing Fascination With Sensuality Of Surface In Contemporary Art." The exhibition, which displays at the William Turner Gallery, is a participating gallery in Pacific Standard Time. Artists include Lisa Bartleson, Casper Brindle, Alex Couwenberg, Fred Eversley, Eric Johnson, Greg Miller, Andy Moses, Ruth Pastine, Roland Reiss, Michel Tabori and Suzan Woodruff. MUSIC
After a four-year hiatus, Funktion Wednesdays kicks off at The Music Box with English Dubstep record producer and DJ Rusko, aka Chris Mercer. 10pm. Tickets are available by phone at 1-855-2-352867.
STORYTELLING*
The Moth LA returns with a "Rebound" StorySLAM. Brave storytellers will memorize their five-minute, true tales and take the stage - if chosen - at Zanzibar in Santa Monica. Non-storytellers can either volunteer to join a judging team or just sit back, listen and laugh. The M.O.Eggrolls food truck will be out front serving up its "Jewnese" treats. Doors open at 7pm. Stories begin at 7:30pm. Pre-sale tickets are sold out, but a number of tickets will be available at the door for $8.
THEATER
Chico's Angels, three Latina drag queen sex goddesses, premiere their high sea detective adventure, "Chico's Angels 2: Love Boat Chicas," at the Cavern Club Theater tonight. The show runs through January 15 on Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sunday Matinees. 8pm. $30.
