Developer Strikes Again, Plans Demolition Of More Silver Lake Buildings
Silver Lake is under the wrecking ball again, facing development plans that could demolish structures like the former Sunset Pacific Motel and the 4100 Bar. The same developer who leveled a block of storefronts at the city's Sunset Junction last September has its eyes set on more buildings in the area.
The Eastsider LA reports that the developer - Frost/Chaddock - wants to level all existing buildings within a three-block strip on or near Sunset Boulevard between Santa Monica Boulevard and Bates Avenue. The "intention is to build roughly an equal amount of housing - a total of 311 units - at each of the three locations. In addition to housing, more than 16,000 square-feet of shops and restaurants are also planned."
Frost/Chaddock's "first step of many," says an attorney working with the developer, is to conduct a preliminary environmental review for three different projects in said location. The developer is far from finalizing plans and filing building permits.
Julie Wong, spokeswoman for Councilman Eric Garcetti, says the city is leery of the developer after its 2010 project outraged residents. "We have told them that we are going to be watching," Wong told The Eastsider LA. "We will be looking at their efforts with an eye toward community involvement and open communication."
