Courage Campaign Calls Out Kim Kardashian's Minimally Taxed $12 Million Salary
California's Courage Campaign has singled out one of the world's most loved and hated celebrities for her corpulent salary of $12 million - Miss Kim Kardashian.
The campaign "is an online organizing network that empowers more than 750,000 grassroots and netroots activists to push for progressive change and full equality in California and across the country," according to the website, and cleverly uses video to visualize its missions.
In "Tell Kim Kardashian to Endorse the Millionaires Tax of 2012," Courage Campaign shows how "Kim Kardashian made more than $12 million in 2010, but she only paid 1% more in taxes than a middle-class Californian," says the campaign site. "That's not OK, especially when budget cuts are decimating schools and critical programs for children, the elderly, and the disabled. It's exactly why Courage Campaign and two dozen other organizations are putting the Millionaires Tax of 2012 on the ballot."
The video begins with Kim saying, "Being on TV has changed my life because I get lots of free stuff." Irritating? Yes. A website dedicated to taxing Kim, TaxKimK.com, routes to the Courage Campaign site where those who want to see more equality and Kim shell out her fair share in taxes can add their names to the petition.
The Millionaires Tax of 2012 is a statewide ballot measure that asks residents who rake in over $1 million in annual salary to pay more taxes to invest in California. Read more about the initiative here.
