Grand Theft Prius: Police Car Chase Ends In Crash & Foot Chase
A suspected car thief led police on an early morning pursuit today from Del Rey to Pacific Palisades. While the chase lasted for 45 minutes, the heisted vehicle was not one of exceptional speed. It was a Toyota Prius.
The hybrid had been reported stolen, and police spotted the vehicle around 2:15am at Centinela Avenue and Culver Boulevard. Police pursued the suspect until he crashed the vehicle into a gate at Los Liones Drive and Sunset Boulevard. Lt. Marco Munoz of the LAPD's Pacific Station told City News Service that the car sustained substantial damage in the crash.
Following the accident, the alleged thief attempted to flee the scene on foot. Police chased and detained the suspect with minor use of force.
Suffering minor injuries, the man was booked on suspicion of grand theft auto.
