OC Luxury Electric Car Company Starts Off 2012 With Bad 'Karma,' Recalls All Fire-Prone Vehicles
An Orange County luxury electric car manufacturer has started 2012 off in a rather non-luxurious state, having recalled its entire new line of Fisker Karma autos.
Based in Irvine, Fisker Automotive has issued a massive recall for all 239 2012 plug-in hybrid cars due to improperly installed hose clamps in the vehicle's battery packs. CBS LA reports that the installation error "may cause coolant to leak and potentially spark a fire."
Fisker will replace the battery packs in cars that already belong to owners and plans to fix the glitch in over 1,200 vehicles in various stages of production. CEO Henrik Fisker said of the firm's reaction to the blunder, "We see this quick and thorough response as an investment in our long-term reputation as we build a solid company that understands the importance of doing what is right for our customers."
About 50 of the vehicles have already been sold at more than $100,000 each. EnerPub reports that no more new cars can be sold until the recall wraps. Incidents as a result of the defect have yet to be reported.
