If you are headed out to celebrate the arrival of 2012 tonight, and your starting and end points offer convenient access to the Red, Blue, Purple, Gold, Green, or Orange Metro lines, you pretty much have no excuse to not take public transit tonight. Metro will be running trains (and the Orange Line buses) all night, and rides will be free from 9 p.m. tonight to 2 a.. Sunday morning.

Looking ahead to Sunday and Monday, on New Year’s Day Metro buses will operate on a Sunday/holiday schedule both those days, says Metro. In addition, Metro will operate 24 hour service on the Red, Purple, and Gold Lines January 1 into January 2 to accommodate patrons taking public transit to the Tournament of Roses events in Pasadena.

Are the buses free this year as well? I remember them being free last year...

  • The buses are also free. In fact the awesomely generous bus driver who drove our bus at 7:30pm started early, and gave us a free ride...
