SUV Driver Who Fatally Hit Cyclist Turned Himself in to Police After Seeing the Story All Over the News

The man who hit a cyclist in Pomona and left him to die turned himself in to police last night.

Rodger Allen Karcher, 67, of Chino showed up to the Pomona Police Station around 8 pm last night, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. Apparently, all the media coverage of the brutal accident got to Karcher.

"The large amount of media coverage played a positive role in this investigation," Pomona police Sgt. Christian Hsu said, in a statement. "Investigators concluded that Karcher turned himself in after watching numerous news stories about the collision."

The damage to Karcher's SUV matched the description of the accident. The coroner's office still hasn't released the identity of the biker killed, but it described him as a man in his 40's.

  • Karcher didn't simply surrender after seeing how abundantly the media covered the murder he's alleged to have committed. He surrendered after his system was able to purge any illegal blood-alcohol levels.

  • dirty 30's

The DUI loophole. he could have shown back up at the scene and hour later with the same BAC and they wouldn't be able to charge him with a DUI because they cannot prove he was intoxicated when it happened. I've had a cop tell me to keep a closed bottle of liquor in your car and as long as someone sees you opening it and chugging it at the scene, the DUI is pretty much out the window.

something like this just happened in SF. they caught the person a day or so after the accident and even though the guy admitted to having 14 beers they can't add DUI to the charges.
