An LAPD officer responding to a call in South Los Angeles learned the hard way that he needs to be careful where he points that thing.

One of Los Angeles' finest shot himself in the foot while he was riding in a patrol car with his partner, according to City News Service. He was on his way to a call near Broadway and Century Boulevard around 9am this morning.

His partner drove him to the hospital, and he's in stable condition.

  • I wonder why he'd have his gun out while in the patrol car.

Or why the safety was OFF!

Their duty weapons may not have a safety.

I can't imagine any police handgun not having a safety mechanism. They go to weapons training with them on as well.

Depends on the department policy. I know a few that issue weapons w/o them.

    Does LAPD still issue berettas?

    Oh, dear.
    Now THAT'S a scary thought....
