Is your flight headed out of Los Angeles International Airport today? Or are you picking someone up from the airport? If so, bring a heaping pile of patience, because today happens to be one of the busiest travel days of the year at LAX.

An estimated 2.9 million travelers are expected to pass through LAX this holiday season, over the 18-day period from December 17 to January 3, according to LAX officials. That's the same amount as last year, however, notes City News Service.

In addition to today being a heavy volume day at LAX, the two days before New Year's Eve are also expected to be very busy.

Airport officials suggest getting to your airline's ticketing lobby at least two hours ahead of your departure time, and remind you to not try to park curbside at the terminal (i.e. "the white zone is for loading and unloading of passengers only").
