How Will The City Cover Occupy L.A. Costs? Budget Cuts.
Occupy haters may have another reason to oppose the global movement following the news that costs surrounding the local occupation will spur more budget cuts.
Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa says budget cuts will be necessary to offset the costs of Occupy L.A., reports CBS LA. City agencies have been ordered to calculate money spent on Occupy L.A. protests.
Reviving the ravaged City Hall lawn from the two-month encampment will cost an estimated $400,000 - a figure that has been highly debated. The November 30 raid of Occupy L.A., conducted by the LAPD and lauded by Villaraigosa, may cost more than $700,000. Just the two aforementioned estimates total over $1 million.
Additional expenses include camp cleanup and the transportation of debris, along with graffiti removal from City Hall marble walls and trees.
