Well, that was fast. TEAPAC, the Pasadena offshoot of the Tea Party movement, has dropped its plans to stage a counter-protest against Occupy Wall Street protestors, who plan to hold up signs during the Rose Parade and march through the parade route after the TV cameras are off.

TEAPAC leader Michael Alexander told the Pasadena Star-News today that he was annoyed that Occupy protestors were being allowed to politicize the event but he didn't want to further politicize the event by bringing Tea Partiers into the mix.

Even Occupy protestors themselves have been wary about messing with local tradition and using the parade as a venue for getting their message out to a rapt audience tuned into the nationally-televised parade.

It's risky for sure - I hope they put together a float worthy of the Rose Parade and keep it respectful otherwise it will just piss people off.  If they go all in and participate like the other floats I don't see a problem with it.  Nor with the Tea Party who could probably have more fun with a Boston 1773 recreation.

Neither organization has any business taking part in the Rose Parade.
