Daigle had previously spent several years working as a Skid Row drug expert with the LAPD, but "was recently reassigned to the Olympic division," explains L.A. Now. He can be seen appearing in a documentary about the war on drugs in a news story from KCAL9.
During the October crime, the homeowner confronted her burglar, and sprayed him with pepper spray used to ward off bears. When San Bernardino Sheriff's Department officers encountered Daigle during a traffic stop they connected him to the burglary because of the traces of pepper spray on him. A search of his vehicle uncovered belongings from the victim's home.
The homeowner, a woman described as a "well-known doctor" expressed fear after the fact when it sunk in that her perp was possibly a member of law enforcement. Daigle lives about six miles away from the victim, in the community of Highland.
Currently Daigle has been placed on administrative leave while the incident is under investigation.
Authorities in San Bernardino say there is no evidence Daigle knew the victim.
