9 Bald Eagles Spotted On Winter Break At Mountain Lakes
Nine bald eagles were spotted during Saturday's first count of the winter season by the San Bernardino National Forest.
Five adult and four juvenile bald eagles were observed around the lakes in the San Bernardino and San Jacinto Mountains, including the Big Bear-Baldwin Lake area, Lake Arrowhead/Lake Gregory area, Silverwood Lake and Lake Perris. No eagles were identified at Lake Hemet.
A San Bernardino National Forest release says the number of bald eagles in SoCal is typically low during the month of December and increases in January and February as more eagles migrate south.
Three additional counts will be conducted this season on January 14, February 11 and March 10. Volunteers are encouraged to participate, and approximately 80 volunteers assisted in Saturday's one-hour adventure.
