Kidnapped Woman Pushed from Moving Car on 110 Freeway
A woman was allegedly pushed from a moving vehicle on the Harbor (110) Freeway Wednesday night during a kidnapping attempt.
Police responded to a call from a witness reporting that a vehicle used in a kidnapping was headed south on the 110. The man who made the call said he began to follow the vehicle when he witnessed a woman trying to escape the vehicle while it was stopped near Figueroa Street and Avenue 46, reports City News Service.
Officers discovered the car post-crash and the female passenger near Third Street. California Highway Patrol reported, "Preliminary investigation indicates that the male driver pushed her from the vehicle as it was moving." The male driver, identified as Juventino Gonzalez, 35, jumped from the vehicle near the same location that the woman was pushed from the vehicle. The vehicle continued southbound until it crashed into a center divider wall near 8th Street.
Gonzalez was arrested about 15 minutes after the incident was reported, according to L.A. Now. He was detained on suspicion of kidnapping, assault and domestic battery. Both Gonzalez and the woman were treated for moderate injuries.
KTLA reports that Gonzalez and the woman, whose identity has not been released, are going through a divorce. The report also said that the woman jumped from the vehicle.
Investigators recovered a knife from the scene.
