Drink & Stay Put: L.A. County Launches Winter Anti-DUI Campaign
Before you reach for your keys after that third glass of eggnog or that fifth holiday brew this holiday season, think "Avoid the 100." Drunk and drugged drivers will be targeted during a two-week campaign of DUI/driver's license checkpoints and hundreds of roving DUI patrols. Enforcement begins on Friday, December 16 and ends on Sunday, January 1.
Glendora Patch reports that county enforcement with the Avoid the 100 Anti-DUI task force plan to conduct 32 DUI/driver's license checkpoints and unleash 202 moving DUI patrols during the two-week period. California Highway Patrol are also planning a maximum enforcement period along the county's freeways, state highways and unincorporated roads during the campaign.
Last year's winter campaign yielded 2,406 DUI arrests in L.A. County. DUI checkpoints are placed in locations that have the greatest opportunity for achieving drunk and drugged driving deterrence, according to a press release. Drug recognition experts will staff most of the checkpoints.
Lt. Rob Lamborghini, Avoid Coordinator from Glendora Police Department, said in a release, "There will be no spreading holiday cheer behind the bars of a jail cell."
