Woman Who Died After Queen Mary Fall Suffered Blunt Force Trauma
Updates surrounding the death of Kelly Ryann Dorrell, the 26-year-old woman who fell 75 feet off the Queen Mary on December 5, report that Dorrell was not arguing with her boyfriend before the incident and that she suffered blunt force trauma.
Dorrell's family told KTLA that Dorrell was on a date with her boyfriend on Monday night. The two drank four alcoholic drinks over the course of four hours and took a taxi to the Queen Mary. Dorrell's mother, Rhonda Montoya, says media reports of the two arguing before the incident are untrue. Montoya said her daughter was clowning around and posing for a photo while sitting on a gangway railing and fell by accident.
During the fall, Dorrell hit several parts of the vessel, resulting in blunt force trauma. She was declared dead shortly after arriving at the hospital. The three men who jumped into the frigid water to try to save her, including her boyfriend and two police officers, suffered hypothermia.
Authorities are investigating the death as an accident, not a suicide. A final cause of death should be released once toxicology tests are completed in the coming weeks, reports L.A. Now.
