LA County's Warming Center Program Heats Up

Temperatures are higher today, but for those who may still be shivering in their boots, LA County is opening warming centers throughout the city.

The centers are part of the county's Winter Shelter Program, which runs from December 1, 2011 through March 12, 2012. To administer the program, the city partners with local homeless shelters, some of which also provide food and support services to those seeking warmth. Last year, the program provided shelter to 11,735 people.

A full list of shelter locations can be found through a link on the program's website. Transportation is available to and from the shelters for those who need it, and the shelters' services are given on a first-come, first-serve basis.
